Jumping the gun a day before CES, Oculus finally announced earlier today the long-awaited date for pre-ordering CV1. This much-anticipated announcement signals Oculus’ dedication to their Q1 2016 release date as well as their eager fans. However, while pre-orders have been announced to go live at 8am (PST), there is still no word of a final price point. Obviously we can expect a final price when pre-orders go live, but this lack of insight into the cost beforehand might indicate Oculus isn’t entirely confident in consumers’ reception of the price. As Palmer Luckey has hinted, CV1 could cost quite a bit more than the DK2, but if the price and the pre-order go live at the same time, buyers won’t be as quick to judge when they have only a few seconds to decide whether or not they want to put in an order.
Luckey will be answering questions during a Reddit AMA at 6pm (PST) on that same day, and we expect he’ll be responding to a lot of buyers curious about what’s entailed with their pre-order and when the next wave might go live.
Stay tuned for updates on all things VR at CES 2016 as announcements and demos from Samsung, HTC, Oculus, and more are revealed.
